Thrawn #1 Preview

Thrawn #1 Preview

At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Comics announced that Grand Admiral Thrawn would be getting his very own comic book miniseries in February 2018. I was excited then, but I'm even more excited today because StarWars.com just released their first look at Thrawn and it's amazing!

Thrawn was originally created by Timothy Zahn in the Star Wars Expanded Universe novels, Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command, better known as the The Thrawn Trilogy, in the early 90's. The character was reintroduced to audiences last year by Dave Filoni in Season Three of Star Wars Rebels. That was followed by this year's Zahn helmed novel, Thrawn, which explored the charcter's origins and rise through the Imperial Navy.

Marvel’s Thrawn, a six-issue adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s novel of the same name, kicks off on February 7, 2018, and will document the iconic Imperial’s rise in the Empire — before he was a legend. Written by Jody Houser (Marvel’s Rogue One adaptation) and illustrated by Luke Ross (Star Wars: Darth Maul, Marvel’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens adaptation), the series will also include never-before-revealed scenes featuring the infamous master strategist. StarWars.com is excited to offer an exclusive first look at the cover and pages from Thrawn #1, in which Thrawn, or Mitth’raw’nuruodo, makes his presence known to the Empire.

In addition to Jody Houser and Jake Ross, I'd be remised if I didn't also include Colorist, Nolan Woodard and Editor, Heather Antos contributions. Antos has been pitching a Thrawn book since her first day on the job and I know she has to be thrilled to hold the reins and Woodard's coloring looks amazing. He really allows Thrawn to pop off the page and thrive in a rich environment.

I can't wait for this series to come out and see where one of Star Wars' greatest villians takes us. February can't come soon enough.
