Geek Fuel January 2018

Geek Fuel January 2018 Review

Join us as the boys and I unbox the Geek Fuel box for January 2018. The box included items from Transformers and Nintendo this month and while it wasn't Geek Fuel's best box, there still were some good items inside.

I have to say that Geek Fuel packages their items like no one else. While I wasn't too keen on the notebook, I LOVED the packaging it came in. Check out the video, but I had to explain to Ryan that this is what Nintendo games used to look like and how we'd have to take the games out of the sleeves and blow in the cartridges for them to work. Memory lane for sure and I think that is something Geek Fuel is remarkable at. They can harness the nostalgia and transport us back to that time and place just by crafting such accurate and quality packaging. Genius!

Loved the Optimus Prime t-shirt! Once again the packaging makes a difference. As soon as I saw the Geek Fuel robot I knew it was going to be Transformers. The shirt is straight forward, but I really like the retro feel to the design. This was a win!

Geek Fuel Magazine Issue #36 - A

Geek Fuel Magazine Issue #36 was a little better than normal this month. I really liked the Mario Odyssey cover and the Best of Nintendo 2017 article was great. Geek Resolutions made since and was a fun read. Gamer Corner and the Steam game write up rounded up the meat of the issue.

Steam Game - The Marvelous Miss Take - NA

Geek Fuel / Steam Game

Geek Fuel / Steam Game

The Steam game included in this month's box was The Marvelous Miss Take. I'm not sure how good the game is because we normally give the games away for FREE. BTW, the next new subscriber on our YouTube Channel that emails me at matt@dadvsgeek.com will get the code for the free download. That said, I was disappointed that the game is a $20 value. You heard that right... $20. The box is supposed to have $50+ guaranteed in the box. Well, $20 of it went to this game. I'm sure that is great for some folks, but the boys and I like the other stuff more and like I said, we give this game away, so it's like giving away $20. Normally the games have been at $10 / $5 value which made since, but nearly half this boxes value lies with this game.

Geek Fuel Exclusive Lanyard and Pin - F

This is the weakest item in the box in my opinion. I've seen online where folks are hyped on this so I guess there is a market for it, but I have no use for these items. Each month they have been giving away enamel pins, but normally they have that nostalgia factor I mentioned above. Either the packaging or characters, Mortal Kombat, TMNT, Mario all come to mind. I understand the pin to some degree, but the lanyard? My son thought it was a belt because of it's large size. Check out the video above; It's very funny. I've seen people post on Instagram this lanyard with all the Geek Fuel pins on it and I guess I understand if you want to wear it to conventions, but as I said, I have absolutely no use for this item.

Geek Fuel January 2018 Box Overall - C+

So there you have it. Overall, it was a weaker box this month and certainly not the way I thought the first box of the new year would go. That said, the last few months have been awesome so eventually your bound to have a few misses. Geek Fuel is a fantastic subscription box and I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to feed that inner geek. I have tried them all and Geek Fuel is the only one I still subscribe to at the moment. I used to subscribe to Lootcrate but the shirt sizes were all over the place and until they fix that, I'm out.

If you plan on subscribing to Geek Fuel, please consider using this link: https://www.geekfuel.com/FJGSr2. I get a few bucks off if enough people use it and I would really appreciate the support. Below is the pricing break down:
